Caring for the Least, the Last and the Left out
Jesus says that, “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” God’s affection for the poor is unmistakably clear in Scripture. One of the chief ways in which God’s people are tested to see if their character aligns with God’s character is to examine their love and affection for the poor–particularly as it relates to widows, orphans and foreigners in your midst. Due to our rebellion against God, our hearts are a mess when it comes to relating to others. We judge quickly. We help slowly. We love cautiously. We listen partially. On this night, we will be actively seeking to grow in our love for the least, the last and the left out.
